THE
OAKS WINS U.S. EQUESTRIAN/PHR SILVER STIRRUP
LEADING HUNTER BREEDER AWARD FOR 2003
OAKS' HORSES ARE NATIONAL PHR SILVER STIRRUP CHAMPION
AND RESERVE IN 6-YEAR-OLD JUMPERS
WIN IJF WESTERN REGIONAL FOR 4-YEAR-OLDS FOR 2003
Mrs.
Joan Irvine Smith of The Oaks Farms received the US Equestrian
Federation/PHR Silver Stirrup Leading Hunter Breeder Award
for 2003. This award is presented to the Performance Horse
Registry breeder whose PHR registered and Silver Stirrup
nominated products earned the greatest number of points
during the competition year. The Oaks' Holsteiner stallion
Samoan Chief by South Pacific
out of the Hannoverian mare Alitalia, by Argentinus,
and Holsteiner gelding Sail Away by South
Pacific out of Helium, by The
Scriber, a Thoroughbred, were the National PHR Silver
Stirrup Champion and Reserve Six-Year-Old Jumpers for 2003.
Mrs. Smith received the US Equestrian/PHR Silver Stirrup
Leading Breeder Award for 2002, and was the Leading Jumper
Breeder and runner-up in the Hunter Breeding category in
2001 and 2002.
In 2001
Mrs. Smith's flagship Holsteiner stallion South Pacific
by Silvester out of Kamara,
by Cor de la Bryére, ranked third among
American-Based Jumper Sires and 16th on the list of Leading
International Jumper Sires. The Leading Jumper Sire list
is based on total money earned by offspring of a sire during
the competition year in recognized US Equestrian competition.
The following year Mrs. Smith created the South Pacific
Memorial Award in memory of South Pacific
who died in 1998. To be considered, a stallion must be based
in the United States and at least 75% of the progeny earnings
must be from offspring born in North America. In 2002 the
Selle Francais Galoubet by Alme'
out of Viti, by Nystag, won
the South Pacific Memorial Award for the top ranked U.S.-based
sire of show jumpers, with Ocean II by South
Pacific out of René, by Ramzes,
the runner-up and South Pacific ranking fourth.
The Thoroughbred Aly Dark by Alydar
out of Moonlight Jig, by Jig Time,
was named as the recipient of the 2003 South Pacific Memorial
Award, with Ocean II ranking seventh.
Samoan
Chief was Reserve Champion in the West Coast Young
Jumper Championship for Six-Year-Olds, received first place
International Jumper Futurity Western prize money, and won
two Six-Year-Old Jumper Classics and in Modified Section
1 Jumpers in 2003. In 2002 he won a Five-Year-Old Jumper
Classic, placed fourth in the West Coast Young Jumper Championship
for Five-Year-Olds, and received second place IJF Western
prize money.
Last
year The Oaks' Holsteiner gelding Cherokee Chief
by Challenger out of Falke's Dream,
by Falke, won and placed in six Six-Year-Old
Jumper Classics, while Sail Away placed in
eight. Cherokee Chief and Sail Away
received third and fourth place IJF Western prize money
respectively. In 2002 Sail Away won a Five-Year-Old
Classic, placed third in the West Coast Young Jumper Championship
for Five-Year-Olds, and received first place IJF Western
Prize money.
The
Oaks' Holsteiner gelding Challenger's Pride
by Challenger out of E'Lovely Girl,
by Lombard, placed in the West Coast Young
Jumper Championship for Five-Year-Olds, received first place
IJF Western prize money, and won three Five-Year-Old Jumper
Classics in 2003. Challenger's Pride was the IJF Western
Regional Four-Year-Old Most Grand Prix Potential and Best
Type Champion in 2002. The Oaks Holsteiner stallion Southern
Showtime by South Pacific out of Amerens,
by Nimmerdor, also won a Five-Year-Old Jumper
Classic last year.
In 2002
The Oaks' sixteen-year-old Holsteiner breeding stallion
Ocean I by South Pacific out of René,
by Ramzes, came out of retirement to win the
Reserve Open Jumper Championship at the Oaks Blenheim Fall
Classic. That same year the Holsteiner gelding Falcon
by Farenheit out of Shana, by
South Pacific, placed in the West Coast Young
Jumper Championship for Six-Year-Olds, received first place
IJF Western prize money and won a Six-Year-Old Classic.
In 2003 he won in Hits Desert III Level 6 Jumpers and was
purchased by Jourdan Okamoto.
The
Oaks' Holsteiner mare LuLu Belle by South
Pacific out of Lybelle, by Lord,
was Champion Modified Sec. 2 Jumper at the Oaks Blenheim
Summer Festival and won in Modified Sec. 1 and 2 Jumpers
in 2003. In 2002 LuLu Belle won two Six-Year-Old
Jumper Classics, placed in the West Coast Young Jumper Championship
for Six-Years-Olds and received second place IJF Western
prize money.
The
Oaks' horses had a clean sweep in the International Jumper
Futurity Western Regional for Four-Year-Olds in 2003. The
Holsteiner stallion Ocean Flyer by Ocean
I out of the French Thoroughbred mare Sleeping,
by Lightning, was the Best Type and Most Grand
Prix Potential Champion and Reserve Best Performance Champion.
The Holsteiner stallion Captain Courageous
by Challenger out of E'Lovely Girl,
by Lombard, was the Best Performance Champion.
Cheer's Challenge, a Holsteiner stallion
by Cheer out of Batik, by Challenger,
was the Reserve Champion Best Type.
